The Chair of the Council to state the object of the Extraordinary Meeting

Minutes:

The Chairman explained that Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972 gave authority for the District Council at a specially convened meeting to confer the title of Honorary Alderman on former Councillors who, in the opinion of Council, had rendered eminent service to the community. Mr P J Andrews, Mr S Arnold, Mrs L M Burr MBE, Mr D E Cussons MBE, Mrs J Frank, Mr E Hope, Mrs D E Keal and Mr J A Windress had distinguished themselves by satisfying that criteria and, accordingly, this Special Meeting had been convened.

Councillor Duncan to move and Councillor Potter to second the Motion:

Proposed by Councillor Duncan and seconded by Councillor Potter.

 

That, pursuant to the provisions of Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972, the title of Honorary Alderman of Ryedale District Council be conferred upon the following Councillors,

 

Paul John Andrews in recognition of the eminent service rendered by him from 2003 to 2023.

 

Stephen Arnold in recognition of the eminent service rendered by him from 2007 to 2023.

 

Lindsay Marie Burr MBE in recognition of the eminent service rendered by her from 1995 to 2023.

 

David Edward Cussons MBE in recognition of the eminent service rendered by him from 1995 to 2023.

 

Janet Frank in recognition of the eminent service rendered by her from 2007 to 2023.

 

Eric Hope in recognition of the eminent service rendered by him from 2007 to 2023.

 

Dinah Elizabeth Keal in recognition of the eminent service rendered by her from 2003 to 2011 and 2012 to 2023.

 

John Andrew Windress in recognition of the eminent service rendered by him from 2007 to 2023.

Councillor Duncan moved and Councillor Potter seconded:

 

“That pursuant to the provisions of Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972, the title of Honorary Alderman of Ryedale District Council be conferred upon

in recognition of the eminent service rendered by him as a Councillor of the Ryedale District Council from 2003 to 2023.

 

Stephen Arnold

 

in recognition of the eminent service rendered by him as a Councillor of the Ryedale District Council from 2007 to 2023.

 

Lindsay Marie Burr MBE

 

in recognition of the eminent service rendered by her as a Councillor of the Ryedale District Council from 1995 to 2023.

 

David Edward Cussons MBE

 

in recognition of the eminent service rendered by him as a Councillor of the Ryedale District Council from 1995 to 2003.

 

Janet Frank

 

in recognition of the eminent service rendered by her as a Councillor of the Ryedale District Council from 2007 to 2023.

 

Eric Hope

 

in recognition of the eminent service rendered by him as a Councillor of the Ryedale District Council from 2007 to 2023.

 

Dinah Elizabeth Keal

 

in recognition of the eminent service rendered by her as a Councillor of the Ryedale District Council from 2003 to 2011 and 2012 to 2023.

 

John Andrew Windress

 

in recognition of the eminent service rendered by him as a Councillor of the Ryedale District Council from 2007 to 2023.”

 

On being put to the vote, the motion was unanimously approved.

 

The Chairman of the Council then made a presentation of the Honorary Alderman’s Illuminated Address and Plaque to each nominee.

 

In Honorary Alderman Hope’s absence, his wife, Mrs Daphne Hope, accepted the conferment and thanked the Council on his behalf.

 

Honorary Aldermen Andrews, Arnold, Burr, Cussons, Frank, Keal and Windress responded to the debate and thanked Council for conferment of the honour.

 

There being no other business the meeting closed at 4:15pm.
